I have been a huge fan of this film for a very long time. Tony Hancock plays an aspiring artist, who gets lucky for all the wrong reasons... the titles are typical 1960's design by James Baker. This image is a Polish poster for the film.

Lovely Lamingtons...

I have been illustrating some New Zealand based recipes recently, and as a way of informing what I am doing I have been following the recipes too!

Here is 'Lamingtons' a sponge that is covered in chocolate and dessicated coconut. Goes well with whipped cream!

The Umbrellas of Cherbourg

I have recently watched this thoroughly entertaining French film from 1964 starring Catherine Deneuve. I was inspired by the vivacious colour that was used on set. This publicity poster proves just how great 60′s design was!

This poster  (and film) have inspired me to research in more depth that art of advertising particularly French New Wave Films. I will keep you posted with my new work!

Today I have entered my first image into The Association of Illustrators Images 36 competition. 

Unlucky Strike, is a reference to the popular brand of cigarette from the 1950's, and the baseball player is ready to strike! In other words the brief was how I would imagine an anti-smoking ad would look like! The competition is getting increasingly competitive ever year, so I would be very happy if it was chosen...fingers crossed eh!

Here is a current illustration I recently completed for the Evolver Prize www.evolver.org.uk which was selected from nearly 300 entries.  The title  'Paws for thought' is a witty look at the many decisions we face in life as experienced by this lovely labrador. I also intend to enter this image into the Association of Illustrators Images 36 competition (along with a few others I will post later).
